What is an Indonesia Working Permit and who is it for?
A work permit is a work (employment) permit certificate for foreigners who will work in Indonesia. This work permit (IMTA) shall be given by the Ministry of Manpower to companies that will employ any foreign workers in Indonesia. This work permit is intended for foreigners who are already living in Indonesia using a limited stay visa (KITAS) sponsored by an Indonesian spouse or Spouse Visa (KITAS) holder. In order to obtain this working permit, the company that will employ such foreign workers shall be required to complete all the requirements and is also be required to pay DPKK funds of 100 USD per month of working duration, this amount must be paid in full at the time of application. What documents are needed to get an Indonesian working permit?

The following are the required documents needed to apply for an Indonesian work visa, To apply for a Working Permit in Indonesia you must attach the following Documents :

  1. 1. Scanned color of Passport (Identity Page and Passport Cover).
  2. Passport validity period is not less than 18 months
  3. Health Insurance
  4. Colour Passport Photo with Red Background (Digital)
  5. Curriculum Vitae / CV
  6. Certificate of Degree Graduated
  7. Reference Letter from previous Company / Workplace
  8. Employment contract in English ( excluded for Director/Commissioners)
  9. Personal Tax payer number card/ NPWP of the applicant (only needed for renewal)
  10. Stay Address in Indonesia
  11. Legality of The Company Sponsor in Indonesia (The details of which may be seen below).

The necessary legalities of the company sponsor:

  1. The company’s Deed of Establishment.
  2. Deed of Legalization by The Ministry of Law & Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia.
  3. Tax Payer Registration Number/ NPWP
  4. Location Permit / PKKPR from OSS
  5. Business License / SIUP.
  6. Company’s Registration Certificate / NIB
  7. KTP (Indonesian Resident Identity Card) / KITAS of The Director.
  8. Blank papers with the Company’s letterhead; (for application letters)
  9. Bank Statement of the Company Sponsor in Indonesia with a minimum balance of 30.000.000 IDR (2200 USD)
  1. Company organizational structure chart
  2. Wajib Lapor Ketenagakerjaan / WLK
  3. BPJS Employment Insurance / Asuransi Ketenagakerjaan BPJS
  4. BPJS Employment Insurance on behalf of the applicant himself (only needed for Renewal)
  5. KTP, NPWP, Photo with a red background of Indonesian staff who will become the assistant of visa applicant/ expatriate.
  6. Company stamp
  7. User ID of Visa Account at the Directorate General of Immigration, for Companies that have Registered and has a Visa Account
  8. User ID of Account of TKA online at the Ministry of Manpower, for Companies that have Registered and has an Account of TKA online
  9. As per Manpower regulation, 1 foreign worker company must have at least minimum 10 local employees.

The required Additional Company Deeds:

  1. Number & Date of the Deed of Establishment containing the Authorized Capital information
  2. Number & Date of the most recent Deed of Amendment
  3. Number & Date of the Change Deed of PT Name (if any)
  4. Number & Date of the Deed Concerning the Latest Composition of the Shareholders
What is the procedure for getting an Indonesian working permit?
In order to get an Indonesian working permit first you must complete all the required documents. After all the required documents are completed, we will submit the application to the Ministry of Manpower in Jakarta. After the application is approved, the Ministry of Manpower will issue a billing code to make the payment of DPKK funds to the bank which must be paid within 5 days. If the payment is late then the billing code will expire and the company must submit a new billing code to the Ministry of Manpower accordingly, and to get a new billing code it will take 3 working days. After the DPKK funds have been successfully being paid to the Bank, the Work Permit (IMTA) document will be completed within 7 working days. Therefore, in total the process in processing Work Permit documents (RPTK & IMTA) will take approximately 20 working days.

After the work permit certificate is issued, you can work legally at the company that submitted the application and paid DPKK funds to the Ministry of Manpower. Now you can work legally in Indonesia with a position and work location that is in accordance with the permit granted by the Ministry of Manpower. If it turns out that you are working in a field/ sector that is not in accordance with the permission given and also working in a location/ city that does not have permission in the work permit document (IMTA), then you will be potentially getting some trouble and receive sanctions.
